Amy the Beagle

Amy the stray Beagle has a new job.  It is "Amy the Pillow" for her pre-school age little buddy.  The family adopted her so the little guy would have a dog to grow up with and she sleeps with him!  Doesn't she do her new job well

She & CJ play together ALL day, they dig holes together in the back yard, play tag, & the latest game is Hide&Seek.  In the evenings she's the first one at the door ready to go for our usual (5 mile) walk.  They walk great together-all I need is a sled!
Josette and Joe in Fall 2006 (Update received January 2007)
Arctica
She's well behaved; puts CJ to shame at obedience school, and will soon be taking her TDI test. We don't know how we were ever a one dog house!  Thanks for trusting us to her care!
She is no longer a scrawny puppy & now weighs over 50 pounds & has a really sturdy build.  She is talkative & "roo, roo, roos" when she's happy to see us or wants her belly rubbed.
Babs and Jessie at home.jpg
Babs and Jessie at home
289 x 48038 KB
Shelter Volunteer, Jen H., her husband, Andy, and 2 small sons, and two other rescues; Jessie the dog and Amber the cat.  Babs and Jessie are now the best of friends and closest of doggie sisters.
Babs was at the shelter for about 6 months.  She was very fearful and shy at first, but warmed up with loving attention from volunteers.  Many often said, "why is she still here?!"
She had turned into such a nice dog!
Babs
Babs stayed with us until the following week when I was to return to the shelter.  She fit in and won our hearts.  We knew right away that we could never give her to anyone else.  Divine intervention found her the perfect home at the most unlikely time.
As A volunteer, I'd walked Babs on occasion, but had never really formed a special bond with her as I did with some of the other dogs.  One night I took Babs home to transport her to an upcoming adopt-a-thon which was then cancelled due to bad weather
Babs with Ethan.jpg
Babs with Ethan

Ethan stumbled upon an accidental home when volunteer Jen took him to do a home visit that didn't pan out; Jen and her family decided immediately that Ethan would have a forever home in the Hunsinger family.
Volunteer Jen and family adopted Ethan in August 2006
Babs with Ethan
Doggie sister Jessie gets a little annoyed with the lovebirds at bedtime but loves to play with them in the big backyard.
As it turned out, Ethan and Babs, another MM rescue, fell madly in love and now are annoucing their engagement!  Wedding date-TBA.  Babs is in no hurry and is content as is, as evident in their engagement picture...
Babs, Ethan, Raoul.jpg
Babs, Ethan, Raoul
501 x 82098 KB
I've wanted a 4th dog for several months & finally my husband agreed, but he wanted to pick the dog. I thought of Raoul because he's laid back, shy & also, my gut kept telling me that the right thing to do was adopt one of the older dogs.  Andy agreed!
Volunteer Jen Hunsinger and family; she tells how she came to choose Raoul.
Babs, Ethan, and Raoul
Raoul is doing so well, it's unbelieveable that he was overlooked for 8 years. Words cannot describe how loving he is.  He has really come out of his shell.  His new nickname is "hunka hunka burnin' love" because he's so big and so loveable.
He is such a love bug. He's getting more relaxed as the days go by and getting used to all of us, including our kids.
Bailey and baby.jpg

Bailey is still doing great! She and Aiyden (1 yr old son) get along very well. She lets him crawl all over her and sometimes she even sleeps next to him when he falls asleep in the living room.
A family in November 2006...here is the New Years 2007 update
Bailey
Thanks for all that Mostly Mutts does to keep dogs safe!
We're working on her jumping up, she gets excited when new people come to visit, but calms down then and sits and enjoys the petting and attention she gets from new visitors
Bella.JPG
Bella

We went to the pet store on the way home & I got new toys & treats. We then went to Mc Donalds to celebrate. Mom let me have a couple bites of her chicken sandwich.
Bella's new family sent this email update for her (it was signed from Bella). I love my new home. When my new mommie saw me she said I was the one for her.
Bella
Thank you for helping me find my new mommie.
We got home & I claimed a big stuffed chair just for me. I've been on walks & met my sisters that live next door (mommie's daughter's 2 shar peis). We sniffed each other & had supper together.

Ben was a rambunctious stray when he arrived at Mostly Mutts in the summer of 2005.
His new family in New England.
Ben
In spite of the fact that he nearly ate the couch in his new home, he eventually settled down and is obviously loved.
Bosley.jpg
Bosley
420 x 31657 KB
We absolutely love Bosley! It seems like he has always lived with us. He herds our kids in the yard and loves to play with "his" boys. He's also very good with our one year old, very patient.

We're thrilled he's a part of our family!
He's an 86 pound lap dog, a gentle giant!
Brody-Bear with friend.jpg

640 x 48051 KB
When we adopted him, he was anxious, overweight, & really unsure of his role w/us. He was always happy to see us, but never real affectionate. Now, he's so sweet... just the best dog. He's lost between 15-20 lbs.
Kristen and Mark in June 2007.  They polished our diamond in the rough!
We just couldn't be happier with him. He's such a fabulous dog and we were so lucky that we were the ones to adopt him!
He absolutely loves living by the river. Swimming, fetch, and canoeing are some of his favorite activities. He has met my parent's golden retriever (Titan) and they are best buds now, its really cute.
Brooke.jpg

Brooke is doing great!!? She has made herself at home, and gets along with Maple and Oaklie great (my two cats). She actually sleeps with Maple all the time.

Brooke
We go on walks everyday, sometimes we even go to RB Winter State Park. All in all, Brooke is a well behaved dog, she just has a lot of puppy in her yet, with lots of energy.

Bruce and Casey
Santa picked Bruce up at the shelter and delivered him several weeks before Christmas 2006.  He was a gift for the oldest son!  Casey joined the family in Spring 07 after they lost an older beagle and mom realized she liked having a little dog.

He is a very good dog. He is so well behaved we hardly know he is here. He's been great with the kids and he's starting to play with the other dogs.
Presley (far right) is the 3rd Mostly Mutts dog added to Joleene's family. Bruce the Beagle & Casey the Beagle mix were the first to join 2 labs there. When the chocolate lab died, the family again came to MM to fill the empty space.
Presley
On his first night at home, "As I am typing this to you all four of them are sleeping on my bedroom floor. What a sight!!"

Bugsy Malone.jpg
Bugsy Malone

We formally adopted him on the spot, & started back for New York with co-pilot Bugs Malone assisting at the wheel.  He is affectionate, protective, playful and full of vinegar.
Dawn and Pete in January 2006, they report, "When we met Bugsy at the shelter, he immediately took charge, taking Pete for a walk & we fell in love with his cocky walk & affectionate nature."
Bugsy Malone
He is certainly representative of the fact that an adopted nimal is a wonderful companion, friend and family member. As of February 2006, he is now our baby son Zachary's new friend.
He has done a great job in blending in with our two Labs, Sarge & Sammy, & our two cats, Scooter & Reilly.
Buzz with Taz.jpg
Buzz with Taz
417 x 28122 KB
Buzz lived at the shelter for over a year with his ailing friend Teddy, a senior terrier mix.  When Teddy died in 2003, Buzz finally went home with Lorena, whose heart he'd been slowly stealing each time she visited him at the shelter

Buzz (on right)
Taz was an indirect Mostly Mutts rescue.  His previous family wanted a new home for him & contacted Mostly Mutts to see if there was anyone looking for a sassy Lhasa Apsa.  Lorena had called THE SAME DAY to see if there were any little furry dogs.
He fit into the family perfectly and became fast and inseparable friends with Taz.  He also learned from his new dad that it's great to get a belly rubbing.

... what a wonderful young man camden turned out to be! We adopted camden about 6 months ago and had a rocky start.  I am proud to say that 6 months later he is a total different Camden.
Michelle and Matt -- Spring of 2007
Thank you again for allowing us to adopt Camden, he's part of the family!
He's shy at first with new faces but after the warm up, he's all over them!! Even here at home, he's changed alot from being momma's boy to a daddy's boy in no time....he loves attention & absolutely loves his belly rubbed!

Cinnamon at Christmas.jpg
Cinnamon at Christmas

Robin wanted to foster a dog and chose Cinnamon because she thought she was one of the less adoptable of the pups.  She thought if Cinnamon were more socialized in a home environment, she'd be more likely to find a home.
Volunteers Robin and Jordan
One of the 7 "C" or "spice" puppies who arrived at the shelter at about 4 months of age.
Cinnamon
Robin exemplifies all of us volunteers.  A "hazard" of volunteering is falling in love with that special dog (or 2!) and helping it find a great forever home--our own!
Well, Cinnamon did become more adoptable and found a home when Robin and daughter Jordan fell in love with her!  They adopted Cinnamon into their pack, including 2 other dogs!
